Fourth-grade classes at Floral Park-Bellerose School attended an in-school workshop called Journeys into American Indian Territory. The presentation included discussions, videos, games, a small museum of artifacts and Native American songs and dances. At the end of the day students created small clay ducks of their own utilizing some of the symbols they learned throughout the program. Students were active participants in games Native Americans played in the past, were able to see the clothing they wore and weapons they used, as well as view a replica of a dwelling used by some of the tribes in the United States. The fourth-grade curriculum focuses on the role the Native Americans had on New York and this interactive workshop served as a unique hands-on experience for the students.
